Ratio Cattle Dock
By Daniel Cousins
My N gauge layout now also has a cattle dock and lives at the new short siding added to the goods yard. The kit is by Ratio and again was a joy and pleasure to build as the instructions are easy to follow as is the painting instructions.
The pictures might make the kit seem a very fiddly but that was far from the truth.
The fencing may look fiddly but is made easy as it is etched brass meaning you only need to paint and superglue the fence posts to it. I painted all my fencing silver then dry brushed it a rust colour and the posts a concrete colour.
Fencing
The fencing being etched brass gives the model a solid feel and not fragile. The base was made and weathered and then all the details were added like the troughs, taps and signs.
The painting instructions guide you through these areas really well so I recommend you to read them if you have one of these kits to get a good result.
Cow Pats
The kit even comes with cow pats which I added and finally adding gloss varnish to the water troughs.
Hope you enjoy reading this article, please dont forget that I am still looking for a name for my N Gauge layout, so please use the forum to submit your suggestions.
Until next time....
