Chairmans Message 2009

Back in March 2005 when I first came up with the idea for forming 'The Club' as we know it, I honestly never expected it to come off, let alone be where we are today. Even down to getting a Meeting Place so quick, astounded me.

Like all new clubs starting up, there was some minor friction from some members who thought they 'know' all there is to know about the subject, but very soon got proved wrong, who I am pleased to say, are no longer with us and upsetting the rest. One or two thought we could have a layout up and running within a couple of weeks and because we couldn't possibly do it, so they left again. Another thought he knew all there was to know about the wiring, yet would have caused a short-circuit at the very first attempt to run a train on it, so he resigned after upsetting a few members, followed very soon afterwards by his mate who failed to take over the running of it all, because of the way the first was allegedly ousted. (100% Untrue.)

At the first, second and third AGM's, I was re-elected as Chairman by a Unanimous vote and so carried on to the best of my ability. In the last two years, there have been just three changes on the committee, but these were entirely for Personal Reasons. The changes were to that of firstly the Secretary, followed by the Treasurer and prior to Martin doing it, we had Jim who did a Very Good job of it and with my Personal thanks for taking it on at short notice. Martin took over last year and has continued where Jim left off. Thank You Sincerely Guys.

When we attended the now annual Christmas Meal in December 2008, I got 3 votes of thanks for starting 'The Club' up and all the time, they should really have gone to my Partner Yvonne, who after telling her I had enquired about a model railway club in Wisbech back in 2005, went on to suggest I try starting it up in the first place. Thank You Sincerely Yvonne.

Over the last 12 months, we have seen a nice increase in the Membership and if it continues like this in 2009, we shall need to find larger premises to meet and build our Layout because of available space, But, I will never be able to forget that without the President of 'The Club' who in the first place offered us part of his home, we would not be where, or as far as we are today. Thank You Sincerely Mark.

There is one member who hates having his picture taken, who I have to say that without this man, the Layout would not be as good as it is from the Tremendous amount of work he has put into it personally since Day 1. All I will say at this point is: Thank You Sincerely Richard.

As well as those I have named above, I can't forget the Members who have also contributed to making Wisbech Model Railway Club, such a Great Club that it is today and with such a Wonderful atmosphere. Thank You Sincerely Guys.
